The dreaded dacoit, known as the terror of the ravines, Nirbhay Gujjar, is dead - shot by police in the forests of Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
Large numbers of onlookers gathered to see the body before police moved it swiftly for post-mortem.
Police chased Gujjar for more than a decade. He was wanted in more than 200 cases of banditry, murder and kidnapping.
And while many felt relief at the news, relatives and beneficiaries mourned his death.
